THE LAUNCH OF ANGSHIKI'S CORNER!
After getting literally thousands of comments and emails asking how we started, we’ve opened up Angshiki’s Corner! If you’re Jay-Z and you want to know how to expand your billion dollar empire, this isn’t for you. But if you’re wanting to start up a shop because you have a great idea, but little to no resources, this is for you. Our tips and lessons will be spread out through emails, so make sure you stay subscribed, ‘cause you’ll never know when we’ll spring a new one on ya.
Tip #1: Understand the industry, market, and implications of what you’re going into.
Here’s what we did WAY before we even knew that we were going to make 1950 Collective:
-Angela did marketing for a non-profit t-shirt company
-Nishiki has been following 1D since 2010
-Angela took a business law class at her university
-Nishiki spent countless hours researching clothing brands
-We both worked minimum wage summer jobs and learned customer service skills (pro tip: work at a food place so you can eat the leftovers)
Coincidentally, all of these things were VITAL for us to be experienced and knowledgeable about our industry and market.
ACTION #1: Fully brainstorm your idea. Then, make a list of basic things you’ll need to understand/experience in order to run your company.
Ex: if you start a website that sells unique hats, you’ll need to understand how hats are made, what materials are used for them, the basic costs of making hats, and how your hats are gonna be different than your competitors’. You don't want to be seen as just another hat store, you want to be seen as THE hat store - whether it's because your hats don't leave hat hair or because your aesthetic is off the chain.
